Leesburg
Virginia
Leesburg Virginia is one of the most historic towns in Northeast Virginia, and the county seat of Loudoun County. Situated at the bottom of Catoctin Mountain near the Potomac River just 40 miles from Washington D.C., Leesburg is considered the northwestern terminus of the Dulles Greenway. The area is a lovely suburb of Washington D.C. and lies along the Leesburg Pike (State Route 7) near Winchester and Alexandria.
Leesburg VA began as a small village in the mid 18th century and was named by the Virginia General Assembly in 1758. It was named in honor of Thomas Lee, not Robert E. Lee or Francis Lightfoot Lee who was a famous Loudoun citizen and the son of the town's namesake Thomas Lee. During the 19th century Leesburg was the site of a United States government outpost during the War of 1812 and important documents such as the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and portraits of early American figures were housed in archives at Leesburg
VA. Later during the Civil War, Leesburg Virginia was the
site of the Battle of Balls Bluff and the Battle of Mile Hill and during the 20th century was the home of World War II General George C. Marshall.
Today, Leesburg Virginia is a place steeped in history, yet growing and evolving into a thriving area for regional government resources and business industries. Leesburg Virginia operates the Leesburg Executive Airport and The Washington Air Route Traffic Control Center is located in Leesburg VA. The Leesburg Airport is a designated reliever airport for Dulles International and contributes $45 million annually to the region's economy. Home to over 240 aircraft, Leesburg Executive Airport runs 20 to 30 flights a day.
Leesburg Virginia is also home to the National Conference Center, a gigantic meeting center that was built by the Xerox Corporation in the 1970's to be used by government agencies and private businesses for meetings and conferences. The entangled network
of underground buildings connect at three main points and are currently the headquarters for Civilian Police International, a government sub contract company.
In addition to being a commercial and government center for Loudoun County Virginia, Leesburg has many great historic homes, parks and locations. Spend the day enjoying Ida
