Study and browse more than 30,000
natural history artifacts and
anthropological specimens and
investigate mysteries of earth science,
life science, and anthropology when you
explore the many great items on display
at the Smithsonian Naturalist Center. The Smithsonian
Naturalist Center is a great attraction in Loudoun County VA and is
temporarily located in Leesburg Virginia
just 35 miles from the Smithsonian
Museum. Here kids of all ages can become
investigators and discover through hands
on learning. Students can handle many of
the items and research objects under
group or individual study.
 In
addition to exploring over 36,000 rocks,
fossils, plants, animals, and artifacts,
visitors can enjoy the many temporary
exhibits featured at the Leesburg
Naturalist Center each year. Currently
the Dig It! and Ocean View exhibits are
two of the more popular exhibits
featured. Dig It! transports you into a
world below the ground and helps
students learn about fungi, bacteria,
worms, and other organisms that thrive
just below the surface. Ocean Views
is an underwater photographic
exploration of the phenomenal beauty
found in our oceans waters. Students and
visitors can also enjoy using neat
professional equipment like microscopes
and measuring tools at this great
attraction.
The Smithsonian Naturalist Center is
open to visitors 10 years of age and
older and is free to the public. Open
from Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30
to 4:00, the center is a great place to
visit. School groups can make group
