Shenandoah
University
Shenandoah University was established in
1875 in Dayton, Virginia. The
University’s name is derived from the
Indian legend of Zyondoa, a brave who
exemplified strength and courage while
maintaining an appreciation for nature.
It wasn’t until 1884 that the University
became affiliated with The United
Brethren of Christ Church. Today, the
University affiliates itself with the
United Methodist Church.
Nestled
in the Shenandoah Valley is the 75-acre
campus of Shenandoah University, with additional facilities
located in Historic Winchester and
Leesburg Virginia. Shenandoah University
boasts an outstanding student-teacher
ratio of 10 to 1. The faculty at the
University is also exemplary, with more than
seventy-five percent of the full-time
educators hold a Ph. D or other terminal
degree.
The University’s population consists of
about 3,000 students; sixty percent
of which are females and forty percent
of which are males. The
student population represents forty-six
different states and the unique cultures
of forty-two countries.
About eight percent of
Shenandoah University’s population
represents international students.
Nearly fifty percent of the population
is pursuing an undergraduate degree
while the rest are graduate students.
